Having won the toss Oakfield started off the batting due to only having 4 players ready to play. We bowled very strongly and managed to get them out for 60. Scott got us off to a great start by taking a wicket with the 2nd ball of the innings. For the second time this season Dhruv again managed to take a catch off his own bowling (expectations here!), whilst Cameron’s wicket was a sneaky one that just clipped the off stump with most of Oakfield’s spectators not realising the batman was out. Both Scott and Dhruv got another wicket apiece and Mustafa unfortunately missed out on what would have been a great catch much to the relief of Oakfield who were finding it hard to get runs on the board.
Needing only 61 runs to win the boys knew that this was a very achievable target for them. Dhruv and Noah made a powerful start, with both hitting some lovely boundaries before retiring. Mustafa survived a dropped catch off the ceiling and with everyone standing still gasping Ethan had to make a quick dash to the crease to stay in the game.
A few things to work on – making better judgement when running with clearer calling and no need to do suicidal runs when we have lots of overs to spare. Also when the opposition only has 5 players – look to see where the gaps are when batting.
That said a deserved first win of the season rewarding their improved efforts not just in this game but over recent matches too.
